Is WordPress.org right for my site?

I have a client that wants a website that is more complex than ones I've done before - basically, they have a company (let's call it ABC), and this company has multiple sponsors. They want each sponsor to have their own page on ABC's website (following ABC's layout, just having the content - text and photos - managed by the individual sponsors) and have them link to their own sites. I need a program that will let each sponsor have their own log-in and content control without messing with any of the code. Is WordPress.org (NOT wordpress.com - the blogging site) right for this? If not, any suggestions? Thanks!!

360 blog design nightmares!!!?

I am somewhat disgusted with my 360 blog. I have spent countless hours trying to design it. Yahoo, seems not to give much freedom when it comes to content. I want updating content. most is in javascript.Java is one of the no no 's. I would also like to have the videos in a thumbnail view opening in another window. I am at the point of trying to move everything to another space. Will someone please look at my site over and tell me if they have any ideas of what I can do to get it back on track.

Hey! Welcome to 360.

First, I suggest contacting the 360 team via their feedback form at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/forms_index.html about using code besides HTML. They have a blog which tracks fixes as they are made and has tips for certain features, see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 .

Keep in mind that 360 is still in beta. So, it seems like many people are incurring problems across the board. Also, they are trying out new things as well - hence "beta." No feature is set in stone. It is in "test" mode.

Also, there is a Yahoo Group that you may want to join called "Making Your 360 More Interesting" at

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/makingyour360moreinteresting/

Good luck!

you are currently doing in terms of blogging.

There are some really neat things in this new version. Particularly handling of images and updating things in bulk. This should really be a time saver.

Now of course as always with a new release, we will have to see what bugs pop up and if they stay on this schedule.

Well, another week has gone. They go faster and faster. I have been pretty busy this week. I have been putting up some more blogs with my new toy... Expert WordPress.

Boy am I impressed with this software. Alex Sysoef and Dmitriy Agadzhanov the two co-owners of Expert WordPress have really gone overboard to make this the best blog installer that I have ever seen.

They have a free version which I used for a while and it did a good job. With the free version you do have to download the installer and then upload to you domain, then run it and it will install your blog, install the theme and plugins. Then it will activate the pluigins and do some SEO tweaks.

With the free version, you do have to create your database before running the installer.

I have since upgraded to the paid version which does all the free version does plus it creates your database and you download nothing. You just login to your back office, click on "1- Click Installer" and fill in a few blanks with information about you cpanel and your blog... click "Install WordPress" and you are done and you have a new blog.

Another important point about Expert WordPress is after you have installed your blog, it is just like a manual install. You can change themes, add plugins and do anything else you would normally do to your blog.

I was especially impressed with the amount of security and SEO optimization that is done with this program.

They also have an unbelievable amount of information available to paid members on their site. There is a monthly upgrade if you need content and prewritten comments and other stuff for you blog.

Oh By The Way, did I mention the upgrade is only $7. Awesome!

You really should check this out. You can do that Here.

Well last week I spoke to soon. I had just done two WordPress upgrades to all my blogs, then along comes another. WordPress Version 2.8.4 just came out. It is another security upgrade, so it is recommended that you upgrade as soon as possible.

I will say that the last three upgrades have gone over without a hitch. It really went pretty fast considering that I had to upgrade about thirty blogs. I do try to keep all of my blogs updated.

Also as usual, there was a plugin or two that had new versions and as always I go back and delete "Hello Dolly" plugin because I never use it, but it always gets reinstalled with every upgrade.

Last week I also talked about a new plugin I am trying called "FasterIM Optin". So far I like what I see, but must admit that I have not had time to install it on more blogs yet.

I think it will be a good addition to many of my blogs, but it will take some time to get setup. Then it will take more time before I really begin to see results.

If any of you are new to WordPress and would like to learn more about it, I have a live conference every Tuesday at 2:00 PM Eastern Standard time. You can join the conference at this link: http://www.hotconference.com/conference,94735127
All you have to do is enter you Name and Internet connection type. There is no password.

Well I have upgraded all my blogs to the new version of WordPress...Version 2.8.

I really like the new features, particularly the way it handles Widgets. That is much better than the previous versions. You now can see all the Sidebars at the same time and just drag and drop to whichever sidebar you want. Another good feature is the ability to drag and drop an old widget to the inactive widgets pane so you can save it in case you want to go back to it later.

There are lots of other features too, like the ability to choose 1, 2, 3,or 4 columns on the dashboard.

It also seems to be much faster than the previous version.

I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with the upgrade. It went as smooth as possible. I did however, make backups of my database, plugins, themes and wp-config.php file just in case. While I did not need the backups, it was good peace of mind to know I had them if I needed them.

I am still learning some of the new features as I play with them.

I moderate a Learn WordPress Live conference each Tuesday at 2:00 PM EST. If you are interested, just send a black email to lwpl@aweber.com and then confirm you email address when you get the confirmation email and I will send the login information. It is free and we would be glad to have you.

As you probably know Twitter is very hot right now. There is a big demand for applications that intergate it with sites like Facebook, Youtube, and WordPress as well as others.

I have been using a WordPress plugin to to notify Twitter when there was a post on my blogs. But, I may have to change to the one Gobala is using. I will check it out and see which one I like the best.

He list all 23 WordPress plugins along with a description of what they do. He also has grouped them according the their use such as "Syndicate Your Blog Post to Twitter", "Display Twitter Stats", " Displaying Tweets on Your WordPress Blog", " Sharing Tweets / Multi Teeets", and "Miscellaneous Twitter Plugins".

I would highly recommend you visit Globala's post at http://www.profitblogger.com/twitter-plugins-for-wordpress/

You could leave him a comment and tell him I sent you.

Well I have upgraded all my blogs to the new WordPress Version 2.7. Everything when off without a hitch. I had absolutely no problems what so ever with the upgrade. I did use the "InstantUpgrade" plugin, which I had been using for serveral months. I only had one plugin that was not compatible "Simple Tags", and the software told me about it and I just simply deleted it. I didn't really use it much any way.

I really do like the layout of the new version so far. It seems easier to navigate and is very user friendly. Plus there have been quite a few new features added. I am sure I have not found all of them yet, but the ones I have found I like.

Of course two of the new features are the "version upgrade" and "plugin upgrade" that I used to do with plugins are now build into the core of WordPress, so you no longer need the plugins. Under the Plugins Tab on the left you will find a new selection "Add New". This will allow you to download a plugin directly from the WordPress.org Plugin Directory or you can upload a zip file from your computer. The plugin will be installed automatically. The option to upgrade WordPress is found under the Tools Tab. There you have a selection called appropriately "Upgrade". You will have a choice of using FTP or HTTP. I have been using the HTTP mode with no trouble, but you do have to have all the permissions set right on the files and folders

Another nice feature is the ability to completely customize the dashboard. There is a screen option tab at the top left that will allow you to select what you want to show on the Dashboard.

Well I guess that is about all for now, but as I learn more I will post it here.

Have a Good Week!
